Charting the Course: G Maffiah on Music, Influences, and What’s Next"

Charting the Course: G Maffiah on Music, Influences, and What’s Next"

1. Can you share with us how growing up in Beacon Hill has influenced your artistic style?

Growing up in Beacon Hill has made me stronger as an artist because I have seen so much and experienced so much, not knowing what tomorrow is going to be because of violence and poverty. Music is how I express these experiences.

2. As a graduate of St. Catherine High School, how do you think your education has contributed to your success as an artist?

My education has contributed a lot because it has made me more aware of the industry and how to make the right decisions when it comes to business.

3. Tell us about the moment you first connected with Dillon Reid of Manatee Records. What was it about your lyrical bravado that caught his attention?

I met Dillon at a record shop in Spanish Town. I used to hang out and do freestyle in the shop, and that’s when Dillon saw me and rated me.

4. Of all the producers you've worked with, who has had the biggest impact on your growth as an artist and why?

That would be DarkCharm. His beats are incredible, and they help me find some wicked melodies. Also, Fusion Beats makes some amazing beats. I rate these producers because they make the beats personally for me, so it’s a sure hit.

5. Collaborating with artists like Mr. Peppa, Bounty Killer, and Macka Diamond must have been incredible. Do share some memorable moments or lessons you've learned from these collaborations?

Linking with other artists is always good for the industry. Mr. Peppa and I have been connected for a long time, and I know Macka through Lady G. Bounty Killer and I linked up on some shows and wrote a banger for Killa. I have learned to be myself, keep reinventing, and stay on top of my game.

6. Performing internationally is a dream for many artists. Can you describe one of your most memorable international shows and how it influenced your perspective on music?

I did a show in Texas (USA) that was one of my favorite shows. I was there at about 1 am, and no one was at the venue, so I thought the show was going to flop. But to my surprise, around 2:30, the venue started to get full, and I wrecked the place that night.

7. Your creative writing skills are diverse, drawing inspiration from different genres of music. Tell us about an unexpected influence that has shaped your unique style.

I listen to most music genres, and they all influence me in some way or another, whether in my flow or delivery.

8. Acquiring multi-platinum status is a lofty goal. What steps are you taking, both personally and professionally, to achieve that level of success?

I try to stay current and keep improving on how I present myself as an artist, staying focused and not getting caught up in the hype. I find different approaches and keep reinventing myself.

9. With millions of views across your music videos and freestyle press, can you share how the support of your fans, both organic and through reviews, has impacted your motivation as an artist?

It’s always good when the fans react and gravitate to my music. It makes me feel like it’s worth it, and at the end of the day, my music is for my fans.

10. Beyond music, what are some of your non-musical passions or interests that most people may not know about?

My passion is cooking and construction. I got my chef skills from my mother, and I learned construction over the years.

11. As an artist, can you provide your fans with a sneak peek or insight into any upcoming projects you have in store for the year 2024?

2024 will be amazing because I have my first album dropping early with loads of bangers. It will showcase a wide range of music and topics. My fans will not be disappointed. #MekDiMoneyTalk
